Cowardly George Peat has spoken to the Daily Record about the ‘prominent club chairman’ who asked him not to break the rules in 2008 to help Rangers (IL).

The former SFA President sat in silence as Dave Murray’s club registered laughable player contracts at Hampden before HMRC served the SFA with a Schedule 36 notice as concerns grew that Her Majesty wasn’t getting her cut on player salaries.

Her Majesty is a patron of the SFA but despite a raid on Ibrox in July 2007 ordered by the Metropolitan Police Peat and his cronies did nothing to save the club resulting in the death of Rangers and Airdrieonions both occurring on the watch of the Lanarkshire based former accountant.

Deflecting attention away from those issues and another storm gathering over Ibrox, Peat has resurfaced this week to feed the conspiracy theories of Ibrox nutters who want to believe that Celtic, the Vatican, Glasgow City Council, Peter Lawwell, the Co-op Bank and John Reid were the architects of 2012 rather than Real Rangers Men like Dave King, Paul Murray and Dave Murray.

Speaking to the favoured newspaper of generations of Ibrox owners, the Daily Record, Peat said: It was 10 years ago and I’d never mentioned it until the interview with the BBC when I was asked if anything had disappointed me about my time at the SFA.

I recalled being really disappointed with the attitude of that one chairman, who was out of order – and it was just so out of the blue.

I was dismayed the request had even been made. At the time I was so shocked I just let it go. I didn’t pursue it or even discuss it with the SFA board. I took it as a private conversation between me and the chairman involved.”

He added: “I believed it was grossly unfair that a Scottish club, representing the country in a major European final, would not get any help.

I had a meeting with SPL chairman Lex Gold, which was mentioned in the media, with a view to extending the league season and he admitted certain clubs weren’t happy with that prospect.

In the end, we extended the season by four days to the Thursday, but that still wasn’t enough. Scottish clubs very seldom make European finals and I saw no issue with helping one of our clubs prepare as thoroughly as possible. I would have happily extended the league season a week beyond the Scottish Cup final.

That’s why I was totally shocked at the opinion of that one chairman. It had been intimated in the press I would be meeting with Lex and when I returned to my office there was a message waiting, asking me to give him a call.

That’s when he made his request and of all the time I was at the SFA it remains the most outrageous I received.

All we were trying to do was help a member club out of a fixture pile up when they were representing the country in such a significant tournament.”

Go on George, name the chairman that made the phone call reminding him that there is more than one club in Scotland.

Who reminded Peat that Walter Smith’s brave-hearts postponed a match against Grenta (now also dead) to prepare for a 3-0 home defeat from Lyon.

The SPL season was extended, five clubs had to wait 11 days between their last two fixtures, Rangers (IL) got to play St Mirren of the bottom six in their second last match. Other clubs in the top six had had to play the Paisley side when they were still fighting against relegation.

As he whispers to the conspiracy lunatics at Ibrox perhaps the former Stenhousemuir supremo is feeling the guilt of being an architect in the downfall of Rangers as the pain of Celtic’s seven successive titles and back-to-back trebles gets too much to bear.

The Record report also mentions Celtic’s proposed tour of Japan, a prospect that started and finished in the imagination of the Record sports desk whose leader also claimed to be a fan of Airdrieonions.
