Chris Sutton has questioned the French dimension in Celtic’s form slump.

At the start of the season it seemed that the French influence was strengthening with Odsonne Edouard coming in as the club’s record signing.

While Dedryck Boyata tried to work his ticket Moussa Dembele came back early from injury and put himself about in Athens as Celtic tried to progress in the Champions League.

When Dembele then engineered his exit it left a number of questions in the air with the timing of the departure and failure to bring in a replacement setting off alarm bells among supporters.

The knock on effect in the dressing room is hard to gauge with punters and fans speculating that all isn’t well behind the scenes.

Speaking to the Daily Record Sutton said: “Maybe it’s more than just coaching as something doesn’t seem right. Craig Gordon spoke about Boyata being a leader and one who integrates the French boys into the dressing room, so what does it say when he wants to go?

What effect is that having on Olivier Ntcham and Odsonne Edouard, especially after Dembele left?

Griffiths is a terrific striker but I don’t like this ‘I’m the man’ stuff. He did it again at Killie. That doesn’t create harmony. If I’m Edouard, I don’t like that. Where’s Scott Sinclair?

Rodgers has proven he’s a top coach but this season has been poor. Standards have slipped on his watch, on and off the pitch. This needs to work as a wake-up call for Brendan. He has to show his worth once again.”

Sutton will keep the focus on Celtic as BT Sport provide live coverage of tomorrow night’s Betfred Cup tie away to St Johnstone.
