On Friday night BBC Alba will screen the Tommy Burns Story.

It is now a decade since the former Celtic manager lost his battle with cancer, leaving behind a close knit family, long standing friends and thousands of devastated football supporters.

Burns’ life has been celebrated in many ways but the BBC film also covers the tragedy of his death through the eyes of his children with his son Jonathan warning on twitter to stay away from sharp objects as you view.

After making his Celtic debut as a teenager almost every aspect was played out in the public eye.

In 1989 he finally made the break with Celtic, moving to Kilmarnock as a player then taking over as manager and returning the club to the top flight in 1993 where they have remained ever since.

His return to Celtic as manager in 1994 brought about a three year adventure that will long be remembered before his sacking by Fergus McCann.

Kenny Dalglish brought Burns back to the club in 2000 where he worked under Martin O’Neill before becoming first team coach alongside Gordon Strachan in 2005.
