Charly Musonda could be out of action until the end of the year.

The 21-year-old moved to Vitesse Arnhem on transfer deadline day but lasted less than a fortnight before returning to Chelsea after picking up a serious shin injury.

It is the latest blow this year for the Belgian u-21 internationalist who moved to Celtic in January on what was expected to be an 18 month loan deal.

The Sun reports:

Belgian U21 star Musonda damaged his shin in a behind-closed-doors game with Royal Antwerp on Saturday (September 8).

He was forced off just before half time and will now be hoping Chelsea’s medics do not discover the damage is long-term.

After starting just two SPFL matches for Celtic the 21-year-old returned to Chelsea but couldn’t make an impression on new manager Maurizio Sarri.

The fanfare that greeted his arrival in Glasgow quickly withered away with major doubts about whether Musonda will live up to the hype that has surrounded him since moving to Chelsea in 2012.

With a five year contract signed last season his financial future is secure but moving to a mid-table club in Holland on loan was never part of the development plan for the talented young Belgian.
