Bertie Auld led the tunes as Charlie and the Bhoys headed to their latest concert.

‘Willie Maley was his name’ rang out in the car with the Lisbon Lion in the passenger seat featuring in the chorus line.

Auld’s most famous singsong was in the tunnel of the Estadio Nacional back in May 67 when a chorus or two of The Celtic Song gave the Inter Milan players a taste of what they were about to face.

The bhoy from Maryhill turned 80 earlier this year but is still just as enthusiastic about the club that he signed for three times.

In 1965 he returned from Birmingham City as Jock Stein’s first signing and played a pivotal role in the most successful era in the club’s history.

Alongside Bobby Murdoch he patrolled the midfield, adding some dig to ensure that no opponent took any liberties as the hoops swept to glory domestically and made their mark on the continent.
