Sixty-one years after the biggest domestic cup final win in history Celtic’s Heroes of 57 were celebrated in song by a group of fans heading to Murrayfield.

Piling on the agony, putting on the style’ was penned in the aftermath of what is known simply as ‘the 7-1 game’.

Led by Bobby Evans Celtic went into the 1957/58 League Cup Final as second favourites to the old Rangers club with 82,000 fans inside Hampden to see the outcome of the first trophy of the season.

The Celtic support were delighted by the 2-0 half-time lead, what happened in the second half was the stuff of legend as the goals reigned in at the Rangers End of Hampden- so much so that BBC Scotland decided to deny viewers the chance to relive the highlights.

By the time that the final whistle blew the two clubs had shared eight goals with Billy McPhail leading the way with a hat-trick followed by a double from Neilly Mochan with Willie Fernie and Sammy Wilson also netting. Billy Simpson scored for the runners-up.
