Fulham are paying the price for their cut price bid for Dedryck Boyata.

The Cottagers put in a bid between £7-9m just before the transfer window closed for a 27-year-old with Champions League experience on the back of three appearances for the World Cup semi-finalists.

At the same time they splashed out £30m to bring in Franck Zambo from Marseilles with the midfielder still waiting to celebrate his first goal after seven EPL appearances.

A total of £70m was spent on Jean Seri, defender Alfie Mawson and Andre Zambo Anguissa but despite all that investment Saturday’s 4-2 defeat at Cardiff leaves them third bottom of the table with only Huddersfield and Newcastle sitting with less points.

Last season’s play-off success has earned manager Slavisa Jokanovic some breathing space but the reaction to losing to Neil Warnock’s side wasn’t favourable.

It seems that Jokanovic has two more EPL matches to turn it around with those games coming up at home to Bournemouth and away to Huddersfield.

Had Fulham shown a little more respect for Celtic they might not have the worst defensive record in the EPL with 25 goals lost so far this season.
