Andreas Hinkel has been appointed caretaker manager of Vfb Stuttgart.
A 3-1 defeat away to Hannover 96 resulted in Tayfun Korkut becoming the first Bundesliga coach of the season to be sacked with Stuttgart bottom of the table after seven matches
Hinkel joined Celtic in January 2008 from Seville in a £2m deal and made over 100 appearances for the hoops before returning to Germany due to injury.
Despite a couple of attempts to revive his playing career he was forced to retire and moved into coaching at the Stuttgart academy.
After coaching the u-23 local boy Hinkel has his chance to coach the senior side with Stuttgart at the bottom of the Bundesliga with five points from seven matches.
Stuttgart’s next match is at home to Borussia Dortmund on October 20 but with five clubs within three points of bottom place it shouldn’t take too much to lift them away from the relegation places.
