Paul Gascoigne has delivered a ‘two fingered’ salute to the SFA after his nomination for a place in the Hall of Fame was withdrawn.

The former England internationalist spent just under three seasons with Rangers (IL) which were littered with unsavoury incidents involving domestic abuse and anti-Catholic gestures.

In recent times Gascoigne has cut a pathetic figure at boozy Question and Answer sessions where the audience goal him on to sing their favourite anti-Catholic anthems.

Someone inside Hampden decided to cash in on that market by introducing Gascoigne to the Hall of Fame, joining the other non-Scots- Terry Butcher, Brian Laudrup and Henrik Larsson.

That prompted a furious reaction on social media as the players off the pitch crimes were highlighted while his impact on the pitch was also questioned.

Last Thursday, ten days before the ceremony, it was announced that Gascoigne’s nomination had been withdrawn with an army of apologists highlighting his mental health issues while overlooking his racism, anti-Catholic singing and violence against women.

Davie Hay, Scott Brown, Neil Lennon and Neily Mochan have never been nominated for the Hall of Fame..
