There’s only one medal that interests James Forrest and that’s his next one.
With the exception of Scott Brown no one currently playing in Scottish football has a medal collection that can compare with the Ayrshire bhoy.
Seven SPL and SPFL winners medals take pride of place but the League Cup/Betfred Cup is rapidly becoming a Forrest favourite.
Since being carted off injured in the 2012 final against Kilmarnock the 27-year-old has developed a special affinity with the competition scoring in the final successes of 2015, 2015 and 2017 although there was a Ross County defeat early in 2016 that prevented him from claiming a hat-trick.
Ryan Christie may have a decent claim for Celtic’s second goal at Murrayfield but with a final place booked Forrest isn’t too bothered about what has happened in the past.
“We did our job today and everyone is looking forward to playing in another final,” he said after the win over Hearts.
“We never considered losing, everything was positive, we were confident, we don’t look back, the next trophy is the most important. Playing in a semi final is a big occasion and we got the result that we came for.
“The first half was difficult, there wasn’t many chances but the substitutes, Ryan Christie and Scott Sinclair gave us energy and a boost, we could have scored a few more.
“The manager has said that it’s not only the players that start, the ones that came on made an impact and that helps everyone.”
Looking at his own contribution he added: “I just followed up the chance that fell for me.
“I’d love to score at Hampden again, it doesn’t matter who you are playing against, finals are there to be won and this squad wants to get their hands on the next trophy.”
