Youssouf Mulumbu is on stand-by to make his European debut tonight against RB Salzburg.
Scott Brown’s hamstring strain makes him a major doubt for the match with Brendan Rodgers not taking any risk with the midfielder.
Mulumba made his debut in the 2-1 defeat at Kilmarnock last month after being signed as a free agent at the close of the August transfer window.
With Brown missing out on training at Celtic Park before the flight to Austria Rodgers is preparing to go into the match without the Scottish player with more experience of European football than anyone else.
“We’ll need to have a look at Broony, he could be struggling,” the Celtic boss told The Sun. “He didn’t train this morning.
“It’s just weighing up the risk of the longer-term scenario with Broony. I would never take a risk on any player if it meant he could be out longer term.
“Scott’s brilliant for me. You know if he can’t play then he genuinely can’t play.
“It’s a tightness in his hamstring. He’s had issues with it before over a number of years.
“If he can recover for the weekend then fine. If he’s no good for the weekend, he’ll be back after the international break.”
With Tom Rogic left behind in Glasgow, Celtic are short of midfield options with Callum McGregor the only alternative to play alongside Olivier Ntcham.
Central defence is also an area of concern with Jozo Simunovic the only alternative to Dedryck Boyata and Jack Hendry.
