As Paul Gascoigne is inducted into the SFA Hall of Fame there are a number of players, managers and others way more deserving of the honour.

In terms of Celtic personalities it seems strange that in the 14 years that the Hall of Fame has been running Davie Hay or Neilly Mochan have been excluded.

There is one even more obvious omission and we get a reminder of it almost every week of the season.

A Fifer who earned eight u-21 caps while taking a major trophy to Easter Road.

He went on to earn 55 full international caps through some of the toughest times for the Scotland team when others routinely called off for little reason.

At club level his record is almost untouchable.

Billy McNeill and Dick Gough are the only other players to have captained their side to seven successive titles but neither ever won back to back trebles.

In European competition no one has made more appearances for Scottish clubs- 104 is quite a total with more certain to follow this year.

Perhaps if he had more dubious social habits and behavioural traits Scott Brown would be celebrated and honoured.

Brown is recognised for his 50 international caps but not in the formal Hall of Fame.
