Gary Caldwell will be named as the new manager of Partick Thistle today.

According to a report in The Sun the former Celtic defender is set to replace Alan Archibald on a two year contract.

Caldwell has been out of management since being sacked by Chesterfield a year ago but did lead Wigan to promotion to the Championship in 2016.

Gordon Strachan signed the defender for Celtic in 2006 where he formed a solid partnership with Stephen McManus- helping Celtic into the last 16 of the Champions League in successive seasons.

Tony Mowbray sold Caldwell to Wigan in 2010 but his career was cut short due to hip injuries.

Thistle are currently third bottom of the Championship but only five points behind Dundee United in the final play-off position, on Saturday they travel to play second bottom of the table Alloa Athletic.
