Jack Aitchison has ended his loan spell at Dumbarton after just five weeks.

The 18-year-old joined the League One side at the end of August after signing a two year Celtic contract and was scheduled to stay there until January.

Despite starting four matches in for Stevie Aitken’s side Aitchison has decided to cut short his loan and isn’t in the Sons squad for today’s match at Stranraer.

Aitchison has close to 100 Scotland caps at various youth levels and made the headlines in May 2016 when he scored with his first touch on his Celtic debut against Motherwell.

Becoming the club’s youngest ever scorer, just past his 16th birthday created expectations but Brendan Rodgers brought in Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard to share striking duties with Leigh Griffiths.

Aitchison will now rejoin Tommy McIntyre’s Reserve squad who are in action on Tuesday away to Ross County in the Reserve League Cup.
