James Tavernier has issued his first ‘Don’t Panic’ rallying call of the new season.

Sevco’s 1-0 defeat at Livingston on Sunday was an unfortunate reality check for the gullible who had started planning street parties the minute Stuart Findlay’s header found the back of the net at Rugby Park.

A 5-1 hammering of St Johnstone soon afterwards confirmed that the Stevie Gee miracle was on course until Dolly Menga burst some bubbles at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

After losing 3-2 to Celtic at Ibrox last season Tav, who was awarded the armband of unsurpassed dignity by Gerrard, claimed that he wished he could play in ‘Old Firm’ games every week- a sentiment echoed by almost all Celtic fans.

Ahead of the visit from Hearts on Sunday Tav told The Sun: “The fans should be disappointed. They turned out in numbers to support us and we haven’t put on a good enough performance to back it up.

They travel from everywhere, they pay their money and it wasn’t good enough from the boys.

We know that. I can only apologise on behalf of the boys.

We have dropped three points and, like last season, these are the games you look back on.

You can’t come to  places like Livingston and drop three points.”

Gerrard has failed to win in any of his four away matches in the SPFL with Sevco last claiming three points on their travels back in February under the leadership of Graeme Murty.
