Ian Durrant has made a grudging apology for getting caught saying ‘F*** the Pope’ at a boozy supporters dinner alongside Barry Ferguson and Lee McCulloch.
Neither of those Ibrox legends have condemned Durrant’s actions, as usual, much like politicians the real crime is getting caught rather than the initial action.
According to The Sun Durrant said: “I’d like to apologise for my comment at a recent Sportsman’s Dinner event in Lanarkshire. I meant to cause no offence to anyone.”

I truly despair. It makes me feel really sad and just numb that anyone would want to encourage or pander to secarianism, bigotry and racism. I genuinely don’t understand it at all.

Ian Durrant has lived a life entirely unaffected by the Pope. None of his life is governed by Catholic doctrine. Ian Durrant is a home taught, ignorant and intolerant bigot with no understanding of the thing he hates most.

The Ian Durrant-bigotry story that emerged today is not surprising – after all, he has form for this https://t.co/alF0wy52lc

Just like the mob that pays to events involving Paul Gascoigne Durrant’s comment was warmly received by the majority of those that paid to be present.
The phrase used by Durrant has been a favoured calling card for Ibrox fans and players down the years, while the clubs have tried different marketing plans that phrase really is how they are defined.
Generations of supporters have yelled it happily at Ibrox while the modern crop of post 1989 players have been told of the traditions such as not blessing yourself while wearing the colours.
Shamefully the SFA have never taken any action against the hatred inside the clubs, sitting back and allowing tokenism through various half hearted campaign groups to be used as a box ticking exercise.
