Danny McGrain joined Brendan Rodgers on the Lennoxtown Training Ground today.

The 68-year-old was part of Neil Lennon’s back-room team with the Irishman keen to have coaches steeped in the club closely involved.

McGrain was a key member of the Celtic side that Rodgers watched as a boy with one of his earliest memories being of the 1985 Scottish Cup Final. McGrain captained Celtic to victory in a stirring comeback against Dundee United.

As a teenager the defender joined Celtic in the mid-sixties where he was joined by others such as Kenny Dalglish, Lou Macari and Davie Hay.

Known as the Quality Street Gang they were to replace the Lisbon Lions as Celtic powered through to win nine successive titles while reaching two European Cup Finals and two other semi-finals.

McGrain had a short spell in football management at Arbroath before returning to a coaching role at Celtic under Tommy Burns.
