An independent economic report has claimed that Celtic are the 25th strongest brand in world football.

Strathclyde University’s Fraser of Allander Institution were commissioned by Celtic to carry out the survey which looks at the impact the club has on the Scottish business committee.

Against the unfavourable Scottish football environment, highlighted again yesterday by the latest broadcasting deals negotiated by the SPFL.

The report covers the 2016/17 season and illustrates how in terms of brand, reach, spending and profile Celtic dwarf all other clubs in Scotland.

Brand is measured by a number of factors covering match attendances and social media activity with Celtic coming out highest of clubs outside of the big five leagues of Spain, England, Germany, Italy and France.

While the report will no doubt be reassuring for Celtic’s current position within football ad in Scotland there is a growing fear of football’s riches being centralised among a smaller group of clubs and countries.
