Celtic could be in line for a massive Brexit transfer boost.

With all current EEC players requiring a work permit from April the FA are locked in talks with the government to minimise disruption.

According to a report in The Times EPL clubs will only be allowed 12 non UK players in their 25 man squads.

Only three clubs currently meet that criteria- Cardiff City, Southampton and Bournemouth- with half of the clubs in the English top flight having a third or less of their squad made up by English players.

Adding in Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish players makes little difference to the statistics.

If the new rule is approved signing British players will become a priority with Celtic one of the top sources of talent.

Fortunately with Ryan Christie, James Forrest, Callum McGregor and Kieran Tierney on long term contracts any transfers would be very much on Celtic’s terms.

The FA are hoping to negotiate a deal rather than have every player from outside the UK have to apply for a work permit.

As part of negotiations it’s believed that the FA will approve all work permit applications, at present players have to meet criteria based on international appearances to have their permit application approveD.

Scottish clubs don’t have any squad size limitations with slightly more around 50% of Brendan Rodgers’ squad from within the UK.
