Scott Allan posted a message for World Diabetes Day.

The midfielder has been open about the condition and hopes that his career as a sportsman can help others suffering from the condition.

Allan has Type 1 diabetes but has lived with the condition throughout his career explaining: “There have been a lot of athletes throughout the years that have been at the top of the game with diabetes. You need to live as much of a normal life as possible, don’t let people tell you otherwise.”

Danny McGrain is the most famous diabetes sufferer to have played football at the highest level with the former Celtic defender discovering the condition after the 1974 World Cup Finals in West Germany.

McGrain had an outstanding tournament but after being diagnosed he was told that if he had played another match it could have proved fatal.

Despite being diagnosed as diabetic the full-back went on to play for a further 13 years at Celtic.
