Leigh Griffiths has revealed that he has been shifting the pounds during his rehabilitation.

After a seven week absence from action the striker announced his return with the final goal in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Hamilton Accies.

On the ball Griffiths looked sharp and alert, facially he also looked leaner and ready for Celtic’s gruelling programme of 10 games before the end of the year.

Throughout the last two years the former Hibs striker has been dogged by muscle injuries with some grumbling in the background about not living the life of the 24 hour athlete.

There has been a few false alarms but after losing some excess timber Griffiths is roaring to get back into action and among the goals.

To come back and score like that was great because it was dark times for a while,” he told the Daily Record.

There was a lot of frustration but I’ve had to get on with it and do my rehab properly. It didn’t help that I was ill for 10 days as that took up a chunk of my recovery time.

It was so good to be back in the team and hopefully now I’m back firing on all cylinders.

Speaking to the manager and the sports science staff, it’s no secret that I was a bit heavier looking but over six weeks I’ve managed to drop a lot of weight and I feel a lot sharper now.”

Next stop for Griffiths is the Europa League tie away to Rosenborg, in the corresponding game it was Griffiths that scored the late winner.
