Four years on from denying Brendan Rodgers the EPL title Steven Gerrard has come up with an excuse for the most famous moment in his career.

A home win over Chelsea would have put Liverpool in the driving seat to become Champions of England for the first time in over 20 years.

At the start of the season Rodgers’ side weren’t considered to be title contenders but with an exciting strike force built around Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling the time seemed right.

For a generation of Liverpool fans the moment had finally arrived, for Rodgers it would have been the ultimate response for his many critics.

Alas Gerrard slipped in possession, the match and the title was lost. Gerrard never won a league title in his career with no-one under 30 able to recall a title winning Liverpool side.

This week Gerrard is indulging in a series of sugar coated interviews to promote his latest money making venture.

Speaking to the Daily Mail he told the reporter of epidural injection he received before the Chelsea match prompting the obvious excuse.

Don’t think that is an excuse,’ he says. ‘What happened was just pure bad luck but, when you do a book or film, especially with people who have won Oscars and made films such as Amy (the biopic of the late Amy Winehouse) and Senna, you must be as honest and open as you can.

Now that he is in Glasgow the former Liverpool youth coach is hoping to again deny Rodgers a title.

With Celtic hitting top spot in the SPFL Premiership it’s likely that Gerrard’s long wait to be a champion will continue for another year at least.
