Alex McLeish’s farcical build up to Scotland’s match in Albania hit new heights yesterday with the on-off call up of John Fleck.

On Thursday morning John McGinn pulled out of the squad with a calf strain with the Scotland boss turning to the Sheffield United midfielder for his first call up to the full international squad.

According to a report in the Daily Record Fleck has been called up, told to stay at home for Saturday’s match in Albania then report to Edinburgh for Tuesday’s match with Israel at Hampden.

With the Scotland squad flying out from Edinburgh at 2pm this afternoon there seems no logical reason for Fleck not being included in the party.

Since announcing his squad McLeish has been hit by an unprecedented run of call offs.

James McCarthy, Robert Snodgrass, Matt Richie and Tom Cairney made themselves unavailable before the squad was announced.

Last weekend Stephen O’Donnell, Charlie Mulgrew, Craig Gordon and Kevin McDonald all withdrew with injuries picked up at club level.

After being brought in as a replacement Ryan Jack pulled out injured alongside Mikey Devlin with McGinn adding to the call off’s yesterday.
