Ryan Christie is close to agreeing a new Celtic deal.
The 23-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season but has been in spectacular form recently- scoring three goals in three matches as Celtic exerted their domestic dominance.
Christie has seen more first team action on loan at Inverness Caley Thistle and Aberdeen since signing for Celtic in 2015 but that situation seems certain to change.
His dad Charlie, who had a two year stint with Celtic in the late eighties, told The Sun: “The talks about a new contract have been positive.
“All things being well, it will be done soon. I think the manager is going to speak to Ryan one-to-one this week.
“Ryan’s surrounded by top quality players. He loves it at Celtic.
“He’s been given a chance by Brendan Rodgers and he’s responded. That was very important.
“Brendan’s spoken about the need for a big-game personality, that bit of gallusness, puffing your chest out and grabbing a game by the scruff of the neck.
“Ryan did that as a sub in the Betfred Cup semi-final against Hearts. The fans are now seeing a lot more in him than maybe they did at first.
“Other clubs are interested — but Celtic are his first choice, no question.”
Christie can sign a pre-contract agreement with any club from the first of January but seems to realise that a new Celtic deal is in his best interests.
Getting a 24-year-old, Christie will be 24 in February, with his experience for free will make Christie a top target for a number of clubs.
A look at the way this season has turned out for Stuart Armstrong and Patrick Roberts would probably convince Christie that his career is best developed under Brendan Rodgers.
