Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that Ryan Christie will soon sign up to a new Celtic contract.

The midfielder has been in outstanding form over the last few matches after waiting patiently to get his chance.

Christie is out of contract next summer and can sign a pre-contract agreement elsewhere from January 1 but has stated that his preference is to stay and develop at Celtic.

James Forrest, Callum McGregor and Kieran Tierney are all on long term deals with Rodgers confident that Christie will sign up to join that group.

Ronny Deila signed the attacking midfielder from Inverness Caley Thistle in the summer of 2015 but he was immediately loaned back to the highland side.

Two loan spells at Aberdeen suggested that Christie wasn’t quite in Brendan Rodgers’ first team plans but that all changed at Murrayfield in the semi-final of the Betfred Cup against Hearts.

Replacing the injured Olivier Ntcham at half time Christie earned Celtic a penalty, had a major assist in a goal for James Forrest then scored the third and final goal.

He has continued that form with goals in each of Celtic’s last two matches.
