Brendan Rodgers quickly cut off a BBC reporter wanting to discuss a coin thrown at Alfredo Morelos.

On Wednesday night the state broadcaster provided Gary Caldwell with a platform to claim that Neil Lennon ‘brings it on himself’ after being hit by a coin thrown by a Hearts supporter.

Since the events of Wednesday night various individuals have been criticising Lennon’s actions which is effectively justifying the actions of the Tynecastle coin thrower.

Lennon had his say yesterday when he described the treatment that he receives as racist.

That quickly moved the debate on to discuss coin throwing rather than the issues involving Lennon and the second time he has been attacked at Tynecastle.

Rodgers was asked about strict liability in a pre-match interview with Radio Scotland who opted to take it further rather than discuss the quality of Celtic’s performance against Hearts.

After asking the Celtic boss to comment on a coin being thrown at Morelos in the St Mirren v Sevco match Rodgers refused to play ball.

He said: “What’s that to do with me?”

The BBC man was then on the back-foot with Rodgers adding: “This is Celtic v Hearts, I’m manager of Celtic I’m not overly keen on talking about a Rangers game, you need to talk to Stevie or someone else on that.

Look at the positives, the positives today was the football, OK cried all week about everything else that has one on, focus on the football Celtic were fantastic today.”

Celtic are now one point behind Hearts at the top of the table with a game in hand over the Edinburgh side.
