Brendan Rodgers won’t be losing any sleep over interest in Dedryck Boyata.

The January transfer window opens in five weeks time with the defender available to sign a pre-contract agreement elsewhere.

During the summer the ‘Boyata saga’ cast a long shadow over Celtic’s transfer business coming to a head around the Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens.

After calling off sick from the SPFL match at Hearts Boyata pulled out of the squad for Greece despite training at Celtic Park the morning before the match.

There was talk of the player being cold shouldered by the pragmatist in Rodgers brought him back into the fold with the former Manchester City one of Celtic’s top players so far this season.

I’m relaxed about it and not worried, really,” Rodgers told The Sun after being asked about renewed interest from Fulham.

You can see that he’s a top-class player, so you have to expect that.

He’s playing regularly now for the number one ranked team in the world.

Over my time here he’s grown and developed and improved, he’s a top-class defender for me and when he does the basics well he’s very, very good.

I’m sure that teams will look at him – and really good sides.

You see the stability in the defence. That’s another clean sheet for us, so we’re defending well and being creative too.”

Boyata played alongside Filip Benkovic today with the overnight news from Leicester being that the loanee won’t be recalled in January.
