Tierney joined up with the Scotland squad on Tuesday but it was only this morning on the eve of flying to Albania that his injury was revealed.
The Celtic defender was rested from the squad that lost 3-0 in a friendly to Portugal last month and was being lined up to play at right-back against Albania tomorrow night.
His withdrawal follows a daily pattern with Ryan Jack, Mikey Devlin and John McGinn pulling out on successive days.
Charlie Mulgrew, Stephen O’Donnell, Craig Gordon and Kevin McDonald withdrew last weekend while Robert Snodgrass, Matt Ritchie, James McArthur and Tom Cairney were unavailable for a variety of reasons.
