Ally McCoist has launched an attack on Leigh Griffiths following his decision to pull out of the Scotland squad that lost to Israel and Portugal to work on his fitness.
The Celtic striker hasn’t played a minute of club football since making that decision.
During the nineties under Graeme Souness and Walter Smith McCoist was a regular absentee from international duty only to recover in time for the weekend match for Rangers (IL). Richard Gough and Ian Durrant had similar attendance records.
McCoist loves nothing better than playing the fun loving cheeky chappie in his media appearances but under the surface there is usually a strong message that he likes to get across.
“There are a lot of peculiar things going on with Leigh Griffiths at the moment,” he told BT Sport before the Hearts v Hibs match at Tynecastle.
“Scott Brown said it was a brave decision to pull out the Scotland squad. I don’t get it.
“What’s brave about pulling out because you’re not fit?
“Why is he not fit? I don’t think it’s an injury.
“There’s clearly something not right with Leigh Griffiths at this moment in time.
“He’s spending his time tweeting and liking stuff that’s anti-Alex McLeish and anti-Steven Naismith.
“If I were Leigh Griffiths I’d get myself fit, get back in the Celtic team and get back in the Scotland team.”
McCoist claims not to use social media but clearly gets fed the news that suits his agendas from third parties.
