Damien Duff has revealed that he will swim to Lennoxtown to join the Celtic coaching staff.

The former Chelsea and Newcastle winger held talks with Celtic last week about the reserve team vacancy created by the departure of Shaun Maloney to join the Belgian national set up.

Duff is currently working within the Shamrock Rovers youth set up and keen to develop his coaching career.

Rather than race into a high profile management role he wants to learn as much as possible with the combination of Celtic and Brendan Rodgers hard to resist.

I spoke to them last week and went to the training ground and met everybody, obviously it was so impressive,” he told RTE during their Champions League coverage..

For me and most Irishmen, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. There is a role going there with the reserves and I’m still talking to them.

I’m absolutely obsessed with football and with learning and improving and that could be an amazing environment to do so.”

He added: “I would swim over to work there. It’s an amazing club and hopefully something will happen.”

Tommy McIntyre is in charge of the Reserve team set up with Maloney joining up at the start of last season.

With Scottish football forever changing it is certainly a challenging job with the Reserve League consisting of just 17 matches.

Tonight Celtic’s Reserve side become the u-20 team with a Glasgow Cup tie against Queens Park at Lesser Hampden.
