Vulgar EPL cash deal finally triggers fan backlash

|

The EPL is facing upto a supporter backlash.

Yesterday it emerged that clubs had been asked to fund a £5m golden farewell to outgoing Chief Executive Peter Scudamore.

With a salary in excess of £2m the 59-year-old shouldn’t be short of cash on his retirement with a lucrative list of consultancies lined up to choose from. From the last television contract Scudamore ‘earned’ a reported bonus of £11m.

While Scudamore, the club chief executives and agents wallow in dosh that flows straight out of the country, at grass roots level facilities are no better than they were 20 years ago.

A lack of all weather facilities sees football come to a virtual halt through the winter months as the FA pours money into maintaining Wembley and the elite St George’s Park.

Scudamore’s pay off amounts to a £250,000 donation from each club in the top flight.

Getting each club to pledge that sum to a local sports centre would be a more meaningful legacy for Scudamore but is clearly an alien concept to the clubs swimming in cash generated by Sky Sports which as ever is comes out of the pockets of supporters.
