Patrick Roberts is set to have his loan spell from Manchester City to Girona cut short.

According to a report in The Sun the winger is set to return to Manchester City in January after failing to make the breakthrough with the Spanish side.

So far this season Roberts has only played 234 minutes of first team football which wasn’t in the plan when he joined the La Liga outfit who have an informal relationship with Manchester City.

There will inevitably be speculation linking the England u-20 internationalist will a move to Celtic but a third loan spell would seem unlikely.

Roberts joined Celtic on an 18 month loan deal in January 2016 with a further season long loan agreed last August.

A permanent transfer has been suggested at various times, with 20 months left on his City contract all parties may be interested in setting up a fresh start.
