Regan Hendry is facing a four month lay off after suffering cruciate ligament damage.

The midfielder played the fourth match of his loan spell at Raith Rovers against Forfar on Saturday where he was substituted after 64 minutes.

Hendry spent the second half of last season on loan at the Fife side and made a big impact after being taken on loan by new Rovers boss John McGlynn.

Regan Hendry is out for three to four months, he’s done his posterior cruciate ligament,” the Rovers boss told The Sun.

That’s another massive blow to us. He’s been our top player in the last few weeks since coming here.”

Hendry has still to make his competitive debut for Celtic but was in the squad that travelled to Austria for pre-season training and also played in Scott Brown’s testimonial against Ireland at the end of last season.

With Celtic’s midfield heavily congested it’s unlikely that he’ll make the big breakthrough with his stint at Raith giving him valuable first team experience and putting him in the shop window.

Once he has proved his fitness he’ll be looking to get back out on loan again with Raith the most likely destination.

Rovers are currently in second place in League One, seven points behind leaders Arbroath.
