Ross Doohan is enjoying the perfect loan spell at Ayr United.

The 20-year-old has played in every match for Ian McCall’s side who are sitting two points clear at the top of the Championship following promotion from League One.

Last season Doohan went on loan to Morton for the first half of the season but never got off the bench, this season it’s been for real.

The loan move was agreed before the start of the season with the young keeper helping Ayr to top their Betfred Cup section with four wins.

That led into the opening league match with a 2-0 win over Partick Thistle setting the tone for the season to date.

Saturday’s 1-0 win at Falkirk was Doohan’s third successive clean sheet.

By the end of his loan deal it looks like Doohan will have experienced a full season of top team football, almost certainly involved in a battle for promotion.

A lot of loan deals fail to live up to expectations, in the case of Doohan it looks like his season at Somerset Park has accelerated his development more than anyone could have wished for.

Tomorrow Celtic are in action in the Reserve League Cup away to Falkirk with the match kicking off at 2pm at the Falkirk Stadium.
