Steven Gerrard has been put in an awkward situation after it was claimed that Sevco fans threw coins at St Mirren keeper Craig Samson.

Alfredo Morelos was struck by a coin thrown by a St Mirren fan after the Ibrox striker scored his side’s second goal in a 2-0 win.

That prompted Gerrard to call for a lifetime football ban for anyone caught throwing a coin at a football match.

Strangely the rookie Ibrox boss never made any comment when a Sevco supporter threw a coin that cut the head of an assistant referee during the 1-0 defeat at Livingston.

Gerrard’s comments have allowed the news agenda to move on swiftly from Neil Lennon’s comments about anti-Irish racism in Scotland.

Uncomfortably on Sportscene Steven Thompson brought up another aspect from Saturday’s match in Paisley.

I’ve spoken to Craig Samson, he said there were three or four coins thrown at his goal and he was hit by one of them.

Having failed to take any action following the Livingston incident it’ll be difficult for the SPFL to take action in other coin throwing incidents.
