Despite reports of interest from Bournemouth Callum McGregor has signed a new contract to stay at Celtic until 2023.

That follows on from the contract extension he signed in September 2017 which should put to bed any thoughts being formed in the mind of Kris ‘split dressing room’ Boyd.

McGregor recently made his 200th Celtic appearance and is now regarded as one of the most important players in Brendan Rodgers’ squad. As an added bonus he hasn’t missed a game through injury in more than two years.

The Glasgow boy had to wait until the age of 21 to make his first team debut but marked it in style with the only goal of the game away to KR Reykjavik.

When Rodgers took over in the summer of 2016 McGregor was tipped to be a casualty of the new regime but waited for his chance and grabbed it when it came along.

Two goals against the tribute act within a week in April 2017 confirmed his appetite for the big occasion with European goals against Bayern Munich and Zenit St Petersburg following last season.
