Anthony Stokes appears to be on his way back to Tractor Sazi of Iran.

Earlier this month the former Celtic striker quit the club despite having recently signed a five year contract.

According to the Tasmin News website his departure was related to a dubious video resurfacing from his Sunderland days with that issue now resolved.

Stokes’ career has never been less than eventful with 2018 getting off to a controversial start when he left Hibs by mutual consent after incidents during the winter training camp in Portugal. A brief spell with Apollon Sminis in Greece didn’t bring much joy with the 30-year-old linked with St Mirren and Shamrock Rovers during the summer.

Tractor Sazi then came on the scene with Stokes scoring eight goals in 11 matches for the side sitting in fourth place in the Persian Gulf League. With the January transfer window about to open Stokes was expected to return to the UK but it now seems likely that he will resume his career in Iran.
