L’Equipe has confirmed that Timothy Weah is on his way to Celtic on a six month loan deal.

The 18-year-old striker has been unable to break into Paris Saint Germain’s star studded forward line and is expected to join Celtic on loan until the end of the season.

L’Equipe reports:

The fact that his mother tongue is English played a part in his decision.

Celtic is an interesting springboard for young players. A fortiori when they are French. The career of Moussa Dembélé , today in Lyon, has for example taken off after its passage in Glasgow. Odsonne Edouard has flourished there for a year and a half (already 8 goals in 16 league games this season), he was finally ceded by the PSG last June. The result is also positive for Olivier Ntcham, who arrived in 2017 during the summer transfer window, and who has steadily progressed through the meetings.

Brendan Rodgers has gone on record stating that he is looking to bring in two strikers during the January transfer window.

Any move for Weah would appear to come from the Celtic boss who was heavily involved in negotiations to sign Odsonne Edouard in August 2017. The success of that move plus other loan deals involving Patrick Roberts and Filip Benkovic has convinced clubs that their developing talents will be in safe hands under Rodgers.

The transfer window doesn’t open until January 1 but it seems that most pieces of the jigsaw are in place for Weah to join Celtic for a week of warm weather training in Dubai before making his debut against Airdrie Utd/Clydebank in the Scottish Cup on January 19.
