BT Sport expert stands by bungling Clancy

Two days after Kevin Clancy decided to disallow a ‘goal’ from Filip Benkovic for no reason whatsoever Stephen Craigan is still backing the ref.

With Celtic leading 1-0 against Motherwell the on loan Leicester City defender evaded the attention of Tom Aldred to strike a low shot into the net.

If there was any infringement going on it was from the Motherwell defender in the wrong but with a smile on his face eagle-eyed Clancy called the goal off.

A month earlier the same referee had failed to notice Dolly Menga attempting to head-butt Ryan Christie despite calling both players over. The SFA handed the Livingston striker a retrospective two match ban.

Craigan, who coaches Motherwell’s reserve side, was on BT Sport duty on Wednesday with Sutton.

Everyone else in the BT team was mystified by Clancy’s decision although Celtic fans have come to expect the unexpected from that referee.
