Has the Record crossed the line?

The Daily Record was quick off the mark to speculate over Leigh Griffiths’ ‘issues’.

Within minutes of Brendan Rodgers commenting on why the striker won’t be available to face RB Salzburg the Glasgow based publisher was telling it’s readers the problem involved.

Any employer faced with an employee with a problem is duty bound to provide support and assistance, that appears to be what Celtic have done in this instance.

There will be no shortage of suggestions about the nature of Griffiths’ issues across social media but it’s a different matter for a publisher to claim that they know what is involved.

Everyone, even footballers, are entitled to privacy with Rodgers’ careful wording of the reason for the players absence highlighting the sensitivity of the issue.

With a growing demand from advertisers to get hits or page-views there is a temptation to race into publishing a story- it seems that some in the industry may have forgotten about a front page covering Thugs and Thieves.

Across at The Sun they were more restrained, simply quoting Rodgers and ‘ongoing issues.’
