Brendan Rodgers is confident of having Filip Benkovic in his side for Ibrox on Saturday.

The defender took what looked like a serious knee injury in the last ten minutes of today’s 4-3 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie today. After treatment and a spell on the sideline Benkovic was able to complete the match.

Leicester’s on-loan defender has played in every match during Celtic’s hectic December programme with his manager sounding confident about his prospects of being ready for Saturday’s Glasgow derby.

He should be fine,” Rodgers told said at his post match media conference. “He is a big Croatian, a big hard guy, so he’ll be fine.”

Dedryck Boyata returned to the Celtic defence for the first time since the Betfred Cup Final win over Aberdeen and resumed his partnership with Benkovic. There was some scary defending from the hoops in the first half but after the break Celtic totally dominated possession with the central defensive pairing rarely put under pressure.

Kieran Tierney appears to be the biggest injury doubt for Saturday but after going three points clear at the top of the SPFL table the hoops face their city rivals full of confidence and looking to extend their lead over Steven Gerrard’s side.
