Dedryck Boyata is a major doubt for Celtic’s Glasgow derby clash at the end of December.

The defender picked up a hamstring strain during the Betfred Cup Final win over Aberdeen at Hampden and will definitely miss next week’s Europa League clash with RB Leipzig.

A full blown hamstring pull would put Boyata out of action until after the winter break but Rodgers hasn’t given up on the Belgian internationalist at Ibrox.

Dedryck has a minor hamstring strain,” the Celtic boss confirmed to The Sun. “Thankfully it’s not a real serious one and hopefully he’ll be back before the end of the month.”

Jozo Simunovic replaced Boyata at Hampden and will come into the starting XI for tonight’s match at Motherwell.

With Scott Brown, Leigh Griffiths and Olivier Ntcham back from injury it seemed that Celtic’s problems were clearing up but the loss of Boyata is a major blow.

The former Manchester City defender had quickly formed a solid partnership with Filip Benkovic with that duo being together in each of Celtic’s three Europa League victories.
