Brendan Rodgers is looking to get off to an early start in the January transfer market.

It is believed that talks were held yesterday with one transfer target with the Celtic boss keen to push on with strengthening his squad.

Odsonne Edouard was the only summer arrival that cost Celtic a transfer fee with chief executive Peter Lawwell admitting to shareholders that the summer window had been frustrating.

Bringing in a striker and a right-back are the transfer priorities for the Celtic boss as he looks to strengthen his starting XI ahead of the domestic challenge and hopefully continued involvement in the Europa League.

Every manager will tell you that you want to do deals done early if you can,” Rodgers told The Sun.

Ideally, you want to take players away to your mid-season training camp, bed them in and do some good work with them, and get some feel for mentality. That is ideally what you want to do. So we will see.”

Celtic will have a three week break between the SPFL visit to Ibrox and the Scottish Cup tie at home to Airdrie United, the former Clydebank club.

During the break Celtic will head to Dubai for a week of warm weather training following the course that they have enjoyed over the last two seasons. Last January Marvin Compper joined the squad in Dubai with Jack Hendry, Scott Bain and Charly Musonda arriving towards the end of the month.

With Scott Brown, Mikael Lustig and Dedryck Boyata out of contract there are negotiations to be held with a number of players already at the club.
