Craig Thomson looks certain to be named as the referee for the December 29 Glasgow derby at Ibrox.

The latest batch of referee announcements have kept the experienced FIFA whistler clear of the big two.

Willie Collum, whose performance in the St Mirren v ‘Rangers’ match on November 3 resulted in the Ibrox club claiming that he had ‘underlying issues’ will referee the Aberdeen v Celtic match three days before the Ibrox derby.

It is highly unusual for a referee to be in charge of the same club for successive matches- especially when the games are only three days apart.

Andrew Dallas will be in charge of the December 26 match at Ibrox when Hibs visit which should exclude the Lanarkshire based referee from the derby match.

This weekend Euan Anderson will referee the Celtic v Dundee match with Nick Walsh in the middle when Steven Gerrard’s side visit St Johnstone.

Bobby Madden will referee tomorrow’s match between Celtic and Motherwell with Thomson in charge of the Hibs v ‘Rangers’ game at Easter Road.

Steven McLean, John Beaton and Madden are the other referees beyond Thomson and Collum to have refereed the Glasgow derby.
