Karamoko Dembele stepped up his development towards the Celtic first team with an impressive display against Queens Park on Friday night.

The 15-year-old was heavily involved in Celtic’s 5-0 win, scoring the fourth goal of the night and being involved in two others.

Brendan Rodgers is carefully planning Dembele’s route into first team action with all of the feedback positive about his development through the Celtic Academy.

After 80 minutes of Friday’s Glasgow Cup tie at Lesser Hampden the young Celt switched from the right wing to the left which must have felt like Christmas coming early for the Spiders left-back.

Taking easily to his new task Dembele picked the ball up halfway inside the Queen’s half, advanced to the edge of the penalty box for a quick exchange of passes then delivered a perfect cross for Wallace Duffy to head home his second goal of the night.

That was the last action of the game but almost certainly Hampden will see plenty more of the young Celt whose first team debut is eagerly awaited by thousands of supporters who have caught glimpses of his ability across social media.

Dembele is expected to join the Celtic first team squad for training in Dubai next month, on 23rd February, his 16th birthday, he will be able to sign a professional contract.
