On Tuesday afternoon Steven Gerrard was as smug as can be as he enjoyed the view from the top of the SPFL.

Fresh from Sunday’s title triumph at Tynecastle the former Liverpool youth boss was able to indulge in sarcasm about star striker Alfredo Morelos.

We’ll just tell him not to go near anyone, we will make it non-contact for Alfredo” Gerrard stated in response to a question about whether Alfredo Morelos had been fortunate to escape any cards in the 2-1 win over Hearts.

The former HJK Helsinki starlet had been his usual aggressive self, pushing and kicking his way through 90 minutes without any prospect of a card from Bobby Madden.

After the match Craig Levein described the referee’s display as abysmal, even worse than the decision of the assistant referee to allow a very clearly offside winning goal to stand.

At the final whistle the Ibrox backroom staff were chest-pumping as they went to the top of the table.

Last night referee Steven McLean decided to apply the laws of the game with Morelos sent off for the third time this season.

On Sunday Sevco travel to Dundee with Morelos suspended due to previous bookings, he will also miss the away match with Hibs on December 19 for last night’s red card.
