Celtic Park has certainly changed over the last 25 years- and even over the last 12 months.

At first the new lights were treated with pride and respect but after AEK Athens ended hopes of a third successive season in the group phase of the Champions League they weren’t viewed quite as favourably.

A Europa League win over RB Salzburg went down well as fans began to accept the latest addition to that cringy expression ‘the match-day experience’.

The disco lights failed to inspire much against RB Salzburg but yesterday against Airdrie United/Clydebank they revealed a new trick- green lights!

As Scott Brown called his team-mates into a huddle the green disco lights focused on the players to stunning effect.

On the park there wasn’t much in the way of fireworks but as the game developed the team moved up a gear or two with Timo Weah providing a pacy and scoring edge. Sadly the match-day lights failed to help assistant referee Ralph Gordon who wrongly denied Scott Sinclair his hat-trick by raising his flag for offside. On Wednesday Gordon will have the opportunity to demonstrate that he has learned lessons when he takes charge of Steven Gerrard’s visit to Rugby Park.
