Ally McCoist was brilliantly set up by Alan Brazil on TalkSPORT this morning.

The cheeky chappy was on BT Sport duty at Kilmarnock last night to witness the debut of £65,000/week hit-man Jermain Defoe.

The veteran Bournemouth striker looked on course for a dream debut when he opened the scoring after just 11 minutes but before the interval Eamonn Brophy equalised for the home-side.

Midway through the second half Ibrox-bound Jordan Jones put the Ayrshire side in front as they leapfrogged Defoe’s new friends into second place in the SPFL behind Celtic.

The prospects of the on-loan striker were talked up on TalkSPORT with co-host Kevin Phillips in no doubt that Defoe would be in among the goals ‘up there’.

Yesterday the biggest transfer news in England was Gonzalo Higuain joining Chelsea on loan from Juventus.

McCoist will be at tonight’s League Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Spurs where both managers are under pressure

Co-host Kevin Phillips asked McCoist for this thoughts on Chelsea bringing in Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus not realising that he was being set up for a classic come down.

McCoist: “It is kind of similar to the Defoe move, I think that if they create chances for him he will score. I thought that Chelsea’s second half against Tottenham in the first leg was excellent but it was clearly evident that they didn’t have anyone to put the ball in the back of the net.

If they create chances for Higuain, I know that him and the coach go back a long way, if they do put the ball in the box he will score goals.”

Brazil: “I’m glad that you made that similarity there with Defoe in at Rangers and Higuain since they’ll both probably finish third.”
