Brendan Rodgers is confident of bringing in new faces before the transfer window closes at midnight tonight.

So far Oliver Burke and Timo Weah have joined on loan, Vakoun Issouf Bayo has signed a four year deal with Maryan Shved expected to sign then head back out on loan to Karpaty Lviv.

Jeremy Toljan has been heavily linked with a move from Borussia Dortmund to provide competition at right-back with Rodgers expecting some brisk activity before the clock strikes midnight.

Rodgers told TalkSPORT: “We probably won’t be doing too much, there is a few guys that we want to get out on loan and there’s key areas that we want to bring players in but whether we can do that or not we shall see.

“There has always been communications with other managers, I’ve already been on the phone to one or two who want some of our players but that’s how it is, it’s early days.”

Asked specifically about bring in a defender he added: “We are looking for good players Al, there are areas that we want to do better in but the difficulty that we have here is that I have good players and they’ve developed over the last couple of years. They’ve been absolutely brilliant so for us to get in players that are better than that it will cost money but the market up here is so difficult to get that type of player who will cost a lot of money.

“It is difficult for us to get players from the Championship down south with the money, it’s probably mostly the wages. The club has always been great and very supportive in terms of getting in the players even though there is a certain model in who we bring in. It is difficult and it is difficult for all teams.

“January is still a window when you can get in really, really good players but it will always cost you.”

Rodgers faces a big decision today over whether to let Jack Hendry go out on loan. Filip Benkovic faces more than a month out of action with the extent of Dedryck Boyata’s injury unknown.

Kris Ajer and Jozo Simunovic impressed against St Johnstone last night but beyond then Hendry and Nir Bitton are the only other options.

Odsonne Edouard made a welcome appearance as a substitute last night with Tom Rogic back in contention for Sunday’s rematch with St Johnstone after Australia were knocked out of the Asian Cup.
