Scott McKenna is a major injury doubt as the transfer window is about to close.

Aberdeen turned down offers from Celtic and Aston Villa during the summer with some reports earlier this month that the hoops had renewed their interest.

McKenna was replaced after 78 minutes of Aberdeen’s 0-0 draw with Kilmarnock with some reports suggesting that it could be a hamstring injury.

Derek McInnes told the club website: “We’ll hopefully have Mikey Devlin back in about ten days and hopefully we’ll get through the next couple of games and get some bodies back. Hopefully Scott’s not too badly injured.”

McKenna was out of action for six weeks earlier this season with a hamstring injury and is a key player in the Aberdeen defence as they edge into third place in the SPFL Premiership.

The form of Kris Ajer over the last two matches has reduced the need for Celtic to bring in a central defender in January but with Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic leaving at the end of the season central defence will require major surgery in the summer.
